flexibility: definition and types

Flexibility is defined as the range of motion of a joint or the possibility of joint movement, allowing the pieces of bone that form the joints move as much as possible.
The highest possibility of joint movement can be achieved only under the following conditions:
The muscles and normal physiological function, are consistent agonist-antagonist.
That joints are stable, since in case of instability is hampering movement and muscle forces are dispersed.
The joint can move freely without contractures or other impediments.
That the movements are painless, and you will be prevented to a greater or lesser degree.
There are three types of flexibility:
Active Dynamic Range .- flexibility of movement in a rapid and strong muscle contraction.

Static Active flexibility .- Range of movement in muscle activity slow and controlled. The gymnasts flip backwards to require this kind of flexibility.
Flexibility .- Passive range of motion required when an external force is applied. Many movements of the struggle requires passive flexibility.
